Way Out West

British Way Out West are back, and this is their ode to classic analog synths and the beautiful music that’s made with them.

Jody Wisternoff and Nick Warren have been working together for 15 years and now they are back with their fourth studio album named "We Love Machine" to be released October 5th on Hope Recordings. It was five years since their last album "Don't Look Now", which was received with mixed feelings.

Now they have moved a clear step ahead from their earlier progressive house, and I really like what I'm hearing. Even the sound from their last EP "Spaceman" released last year is quite different. A more "modern" house sound inspired of the 80's has emerged but of course still very dance-friendly. I think this newer sound is going to set a new era for Way Out West.

The first single to be released is "Only Love" and it features Jonathan Mendelsohn on vocals and some original 80's-era keyboards that sets it off. Note that this single marks their first collaboration with a male vocalist.

These two songs are included on the forthcoming album. Great tunes! Be ready in the beginning of October to grab your copy of "We Love Machine".

Sir Lancelot's manic August selection

Went to Lifelike's gig yesterday at Debaser Medis and he was completely brilliant. I danced like a maniac... So if you have the chance to see him play live in your hometown, don't miss it!
Here are some songs I've played a lot at home or at gigs:

A very nice mash-up with Ian Curtis' brilliant voice.

Little Boots - New In Town (A1 Bassline Remix)
You've probably already heard Fred Falke's version, this is equally good.

Simian Mobile Disco - Audacity Of Huge (Allez-Allez Remix)
A nice uptempo beat that never fails...

Grafton Primary vs Lifelike - Girl Can Cook (Hey Now Mash Up)
Did anyone say Chromeo?

Datassette Vs Kate Bush - Running up that hill
The best remix of this song I've heard so far...

Michoacan - She's Sent (Fabrizio Mammarella Remix)
Mr Mammarella does it again.

Phresh n Low - Zapped (Dicky Trisco Cosmic Edit)
I played this at my last gig, and it rocked.

Enjoy!

xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx

Hot as fire. Sweet like candy. Mellow like the calm sea but yet wild as an untamed beast. The xx gives you one of the best albums this year has to witness. It's their debut, but what a debut! The hype on the blogs in the world is not undeserved. Also keep in mind that the album not is released in the US yet...

The xx consists of four youngsters from London that are still teenagers. It makes their debut even more impressive. Because the sound is mature, steady and very very musical. Fantastic melodies and guitar harmonies. Combine this with the great combination of a female and a male singer. They work amazingly together with their voices and take the songs into perfection. This is a band that you can't miss for anything in the world. Even NME predicted their greatness when they placed The xx as number 6 in "The Future 50" list of 2009.

Here are two of the best songs from the album according to me even if all the songs on the album are great. Nice beat leads the songs forward accompanied with perfect harmonies. Pay attention to "Heart Skipped A Beat" about 3.03 into the song when it grows even further. It's easy to fall in love!

The xx - Heart Skipped A Beat

The xx - Islands

I also want to share another tune from the album but in this case the drum edit by Them Jeans is actually better than the original. Once again according to me, you decide for yourself. Anyhow if you live in the US you can preorder the album here, otherwise download it here.

Dying In Africa

The new Sally Shapiro album "My Guilty Pleasure" is now released. Go and get your hands on a beautiful copy of it via Paperbag Records, either in the PBR Shop or in the PBR Digital Shop.

We've already posted the great songs "Love In July" and "Miracle" from the new album before. Now to celebrate the release of the album we give you this cover of Nicolas Makelberge's "Dying In Africa". The original tune is a fine one from 2006 and named same as the album "Dying In Africa" that you also should go and check out.

Burns - Teknique

Burns ends up the summer with a new EP named "Teknique", his third EP this year. Together with the title track there are two more songs that also are remixed my Fred Falke and His Majesty Andre. "Teknique" is an intense wallop right in the face, and it will keep you knocked!

Burns - Teknique

Thomas Bachellier has also outdone himself to produce a clip that does "Teknique " justice. With scenes from the cult movie "The Warriors" from 1979 I can't resist also posting the theme song from that movie by Barry De Vorzon.

Barry De Vorzon - Theme from 'The Warriors'

But the rumble doesn't end here. In the last round Burns has also done a fine remix of a fine rock band. Kasabian are shortlisted for the Mercury Prize for their album "West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum". Check them out because they have a great sound highly influenced of Primal Scream with a darker electronic sound as add-on.

Greg Wilson

If you haven't heard about Greg Wilson from Liverpool before it's time now to put that name into your memorybank. Mr Wilson is a great master of re-edits and mash-ups just like Todd Terje and Pilooski but this guy was a mixmaster already in the 80s. Check him out doing his stuff in this cool video below. Here are some of my favourite tunes:
I think this is even better than the original...
Just delightful...
I played this song at an after party three times in a row...
Yes it's been sampled in Tom Middleton's "Cosmos"...

A new visitor

They duo are from London and Visitor is the name of the band. They used to be known as Cobra Dukes but not any more then. I really like the turn from the Dukes to a more kind of catchy indietronica with greater ambitions.

"Too Far Gone" is their second release and it's brand new. It's going to be a hot tune!

Visitor - Too Far Gone

The song "Los Feeling" came out about a month ago and found the blogosphere right away. So now there is a lot of good remixes of that song out there. I have chosen to post these one's where I believe they are all pretty damn good in their own kind of way. The "Rough Mix" is actually the original song.

Visitor - Los Feeling (Rough Mix)

Visitor - Los Feeling (Monsieur Adi Remix)

Visitor - Los Feeling (Flashmen Remix)

Visitor - Los Feeling (Digitalfoxglove + Wonder Remix)

Visitor - Los Feeling (Bit Funk Remix)

Afghan Raiders wins the Filter Magazine Remix Contest...

...with their remix of the Black Lips track "The Drop I Hold" featuring GZA. Afghan Raiders have created a superb remix of a originally kind of crazy song. Keep up the good work Mikey and Beans!

French dream pop

Thanks "the deXter Bentley Hello GoodBye" on Resonance 104.4 FM for introducing the French duo Schaatz to the world. They made their live debut on the show in May and the world now lays open for them. They played a few gigs in the springtime and then started up their MySpace and shortly after that they were invited to the radio show.

Some of their songs, especially "Terminus" and "Barbara Lisa Chloe" just add a rotation on Viva Radio NY. They also play live on a French Web TV Show called "Telekim" the 9th of September. Besides this Schaatz are also working on a lot of remixes and making the music for a short film – a horror movie!

They tell us that they are influenced by Tangerine Dream, Giorgio Moroder, Jean Michel Jarre, John Maus and girls...

Four remixes by Mr.Falke

It was quite a while ago we mentioned master remixer Fred Falke here at Tracasseur. So now it's time for him. You can't blame him for being lazy. He delivers remixes in a steady stream and as always, they are great! I wonder when he is going to make a bad and boring remix, is it possible?!

La Roux - Bulletproof (Fred Falke Remix)

Miike Snow - Animal (Fred Falke Remix)

Miami Horror - Make You Mine (Fred Falke Remix)

Example - Watch The Sun Come Up (Fred Falke Remix)

Animal lover

Rescue Cat from London has just released his newest song on iTunes and it's called "£10 Bag". It's a nice little tune about 80's computer games, childhood and heroin. Together with the digital release also this promo video was shot.

Suck On This!

Two weeks ago I posted a great Tracey Thorn remix by monstr and now it's time again for a new remix by Dan and Steve from monstr. This time it's of unsigned LA-based singer Jen Bloom. We agree she has a great voice and probably it's just a matter of time before she comes out with more cool songs and remixes.

Here is a 320 kbps version of it. Suck on that!

And as nice bonus to you:

Kylie Minogue - Slow (monstr Remix)

FM Attack release of "Dreamatic"

Yes, it's out there now! Go get it right away! FM Attack have just released a nine-track album named "Dreamatic" on Tonite Records. So what are you waiting for? Buy it right away at Juno Download or iTunes.

And for you who haven't heard of FM Attack yet, here is a quick review. I stumbled upon him in early April and I was hooked right away with the great nu italo/nu disco sound. Him, is a guy from Vancouver, Canada named Shawn Ward. That he named his album "Dreamatic" wasn't really no surprise because it describes the music in a proper way. The music is full of amazing 80's harmonies and synth melodies in the best italo style. So now that you know a little about FM Attack, dream your way to where you can pick up the album.

FM Attack - Sleepless Nights

FM Attack - Disco Attack

FM Attack - Take Me Away

Before Daft Punk there was....

Before Daft Punk took the house scene to Paris in the middle of the 90's there was a band called Motorbass...

If you never heard of them before let me just say: Philippe Zdar and Etienne De Crécy. These two Parisians released 2 EP's in 1993 and one of the best electronic albums ever: PANSOUL in 1996.
After their album Philippe Zdar moved on with the successful "Cassius" alongside his colleague Boombass. Etienne De Crécy continued with "Superdiscount" and last year he started his mighty spectacular live show with 3-D cubes on stage.

I strongly suggest you buy their unique and only album here , cause you will never get tired of this timeless piece.

Here are some of my favourites on the album:

Au Revoir Simone

This beautiful female trio from Williamsburg in New York have been doing grand music for a couple of years now. Au Revoir Simone was formed back in 2003 with the name taken from a line Pee-Wee Herman says to a minor character (named Simone) in Tim Burton's "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure". They recorded their first album "Verses of Comfort, Assurance & Salvation" in a basement shower stall that belonged to their manager. Now their third album "Still Night, Still Light" is out and I believe it's a pearl. Dreamy and catchy at the same time.

Today we are going to explore some of their tunes where we compare the original with the best remix of the song according to me. Two of the songs are from "Still Night, Still Light" and four of them are from their second album "The Bird Of Music".

I believe The Teenagers from France have made two really good remixes out of "Shadows" and "Fallen Snow". Disco Pusher, also from New York, remix of "Stars" is also quite nice. And the remix collective RAC (The Remix Artist Collective) have made "Sad Song" into a more of an 80's indie hit.

Au Revoir Simone - Shadows

And as an little extra bonus, if you still want more of Au Revoir Simone, I give you a cover of Electric Light Orchestra's "Here Is The News" along with the original of course. This cover is featured on Buffetlibre's 80's cover project "Rewind 2" as we have mentioned earlier on Tracasseur.

Cut Copy + ODahl

We've been raving about ODahl, who have been making some awesome music recently. He seems to be on a mission to remix all classic tracks that already have been remixed to death, just to show how it's done I guess. Here's his take on a Cut Copy classic. May we expect remixes of "1901", "Music Sounds Better With You", "Fancy Footwork" and "Ce Jeu" soon?

Little Wildkat

From Brooklyn, New York comes Bradley D and from Chicago comes Daniel E. Together they form Flashmen. Catchy with the genial touch of the 80's synth sound. The song "Little Wildkat" is released by themselves online and is also remixed by four other acts. I still believe the original song has it all but I hand along two of the remixes anyhow.

So I'm Jo

No, we are Tracasseur still, but once again like a never-ending story another fine act arises from Australia. So I'm Jo are a duo based in Sydney consisting of two young fine men, Damon Cameron and Glen Cassidy, and they are making mighty fine music. Influenced by the bright fuzz of the disco and by the craft of song they have just released "Entrevoir" on Modularfield. Enjoy!

Young dream lover

A bit of a late tip, but if you're in the Australian Gold Coast area, you should head over to Elke's release party at Elsewhere tonight. The Queensland band is celebrating their first EP release; "Blue Dream Lover". The quartet make indie synth music somewhere in between Depeche Mode and Cut Copy, and they do it well. And not only is BDL a great original, it also comes with excellent remixes by the likes of Broke One and Fromage Disco.

Err, come to think of it the party tip is really late since it's now about 4 o'clock on Saturday morning in Surfers Paradise when I finally post this. Sorry about that, we'll be firing our Head of Australian club guides...

Elke - Till I'm Gone

Great remixes, but my favourite is Youth's nu disco-trance smoker. More about him soon.

Paul

Meet Paul. He makes music that is half nu italo, half French touch house, in the same vein as, say, College or Lifelike protégés Frankfurt Express. He's such a great artist he only uses an artist name like Michelangelo or Cher. He's quite possibly the future of French touch when we finally grow tired of all the gazillion remixes Fred Falke spits out (not that that's happened yet).

Lazy Boy

I'm sorry if I've been a bit lazy lately (I just bought a new lazy-boy sofa...) but I blame it on the nice weather, well anyway here are some songs I've been listening to a lot in July:

I posted the video recently so here finally comes this German pearl.

British MONSTR makes great remixes of Kylie Minogue, Duran Duran...

Danish Trentemøller is now a major DJ superstar playing all around the world, I can understand why...

Hey it's Italian disco emperor Giorgio, do I need to say more?
