Half-year update

Today is the last day of the first half of 2010. If it wasn't so hot in my apartment I would've come up with an in-depth analysis of the music year so far. But I won't. The summer heat and the World Cup have made me slip into some sort of coma that I need to snap out of before our little Serbia tour and the holiday thereafter.

So what's happened so far? Well, we get more great music than we're able to pass on to you. A lot more. We received our first legal threats that our legal branch managed to wrestle our way out of. That was exciting. Or something. We've downsized by 33 percent. And at the same time all these talented people keep producing these great tracks of which a few recent ones I thought I'd share with you.

The former Belgian duo Aeroplane have also downsized. Vito De Luca announced two weeks ago that Stephen Fasano had left him in charge of their project and that Stephen would go on to work on his own projects. That means that their remix of Breakbot's "Baby I'm Yours" probably is one of their last tracks as a duo. And what a remix it is.

Their mash-up of their own remix of Friendly Fires' "Paris" and Flight Facilities' "I Crave You" isn't half bad either.

I have to say I didn't know what to make of Miami Horror's "Moon Theory". I mean, I'm a great fan of Benjamin Plant's productions and remixes. And I like the type of psychedelia pop/surf electro that Australian colleagues Empire of the Sun made us listen to for basically the whole of last year. Maybe Ben, and the rest of the quartet that Miami Horror turns in to on live gigs, are evolving to more of a straight-up pop band, but I still prefer Punks Jump Up's remix of the song.

Remember Junior Senior's "Move Your Feet"? That one hit wonder from 1998 must've been one of Denmark's biggest international music successes since Tommy Seebach's "Apache". The only thing you can draw from that is that not much good comes from Denmark. I mean, did you see them in the World Cup? Sweden, who the Danes knocked out on the road to South Africa would have done soo much better. The only team who were worse than Denmark were France. And wasn't that an elegant way to peg up this remix by Montpellier's Night Drugs?

Wow, I'm pretty proud of that last paragraph. I'm such a good writer. I'd say I'm at least on the same level as Hemingway (*boom tsss*).

Matt Van Schie - Lady (Hemingway Remix)

I'm real sorry about that, both Matt Van Schie and Hemingway are great producers who deserve all your Myspace love and a large portion of your record buying budget.

Kavinsky's remix contest finished today. Expect a lot of "Nightcall" remixes soon. I hope they're at least half as good as Milanese Broke One's piano anthem.
